Hawa, is a mother of two children, Shafie and Shahidah. Shafie and Shahidah are married to Maria and Hisham respectively and live with their own families. Hawa leads an independent life staying with her bed-ridden husband. She works as a canteen helper. While Hawa is away at work, her neighbour, who regularly sends food to her husband discovers that Aziz has passed away.
After Aziz’s funeral, Shafie as the eldest son, invites his mother, Hawa, to stay with him. He feels that his late father’s CPF money will not be enough to support her. Shafie coaxes Hawa to stay with him and move out of her rental flat. Shahidah, on the other hand, makes no attempt to invite her mother to live with her, although that would be what Hawa prefers. Shahidah is worried that her conservative mother will find out about her husband’s carefree lifestyle.
Shahidah’s husband, Hisham is a club manager. He socializes with his clients regularly. He drinks and keeps a few girlfriends without Shahidah’s knowledge. Shahidah, on the other hand, later meets with Rizal.
They begin to see each other. Shahidah takes Rizal home to introduce him to her family. What started as a simple friendship soon develops into something more between Shahidah and Rizal. Deprived of love from her husband, Shahidah turns to Rizal for affection. Rizal, who is much younger, willingly gives in to Shahidah as she showers him with money but with a plot in mind.
Unlike Shahidah, the elder brother, Shafie, is plagued with money problems as his savings are running low. He has barely enough money to tide him over until the end of the month. He secretly takes money from his wife, Maria. The latter, disturbed that she is losing her money, does not suspect that her husband is actually the culprit. She believes that a ‘toyol’ (spirit) is responsible for her loss.
Aisyah, Shafie’s daughter and a junior college student, occasionally sacrifices the money she needs for her tuition and books and gives it to her father, thinking that he needs the money more to pay the bills. Little did they know... Shafie has a gambling addiction.
